For this piece, I began by drawing a diagram to generate measurements for a rectangular box made from wood, epoxy, and a Banksia seed pod. The materials were cast flat, with epoxy adding texture and transparency to allow light to pass through, enhancing the natural beauty. After letting the epoxy cure, I used a flattening jig to plane the surface and trimmed the panels to size.
The lid is crafted from ash as a single piece of wood, cut to half thickness, then planed and glued. It features an inner lip also of ash that fits snugly inside the box. I also engraved a quote using a CNC router, adding a personal touch. This process blends craftsmanship with mechanization, utilizing tools like sanders, CNCs, and planers throughout.
